    How Long Does Incense Burn?

A STIIICKS stick burns for around 25 minutes. The scent stays after it finishes, so you do not need to keep lighting sticks for the room to smell good.

That is useful to know before you burn through half a box trying to prepare your apartment for someone coming over.

Burn time and scent time are different

The 25 minutes on the box tells you how long the stick burns. It does not tell you exactly when you will stop noticing the fragrance.

That depends on the room, ventilation and the incense itself. You might still notice it hours later, but there is no reliable countdown for scent. Opening windows, cooking dinner and the size of the space all affect the result.

STIIICKS sticks have no bamboo core. The stick itself burns down, leaving ash. Other incense can burn for longer, so check the instructions for the product you have rather than assuming every stick lasts the same amount of time.

When to light incense before a date

There is a particular amount of effort involved in having someone over and hoping they think your apartment always looks like this.

The bathroom gets cleaned. The laundry gets moved somewhere less visible. You briefly consider whether the books beside your bed are the books you want beside your bed.

Fragrance can be part of that preparation. It does not need to dominate the room.

If you would like a STIIICKS stick to finish before someone arrives, allow about 30 minutes. Keep it somewhere you can supervise it while you get ready, in a suitable holder away from anything flammable.

One stick is a sensible place to start. Let it finish before deciding whether you want more. You are going to be sitting in that room too.

And if you have cooked something with a strong smell, ventilate first. Adding incense will give you another scent; it will not remove dinner.

    Choosing a scent

For an evening, GHOSTED is an easy starting point: creamy oud with a woody, slightly sweet character.

SINGLE AF goes in a different direction with milky espresso, coffee and chocolate. There is no reason you cannot light it at night if that is what you like. The name does not disqualify you from having company either.

Choose something you want to smell. Trying to guess another person's taste before they have even arrived is more preparation than this requires.

    FAQ

    Can you relight a stick?

Yes, if you extinguished it before it finished and there is unburned incense remaining. A completely burned stick leaves nothing to relight.

How many sticks are in a STIIICKS box?

Around fifteen, with a holder included.

Should you light another as soon as one finishes?

Give it a little time first. The fragrance can remain after the visible smoke has cleared. You may already have enough scent in the room.
